Focus on man and the environment

blog

Nijhof-Wassink gives high priority to personal attention for man and the environment (People and Planet). Our BBS department plays a central role in that process, putting our principles into practice on a daily basis. As a business, we invest continuously in the best equipment and the most up-to-date systems, but when it comes to delivering the best performance in terms of safety, driver behaviour and service orientation, our people make the difference. These aspects receive attention every day, via our Behaviour Based Safety programme. Our trainers coach our staff to optimise the safe use of trucks, as well as boosting safety awareness and improving customer contact skills. After all, our drivers are the calling card for our business and yours. The coaching programmes are tailor made, focused on each individual driver, based on the personalised data available to us in each of the areas referred to. By collecting data which is then used to provide training, and subsequently monitoring the effects of that training, we have become a continuous learning organisation.

At secondary school one of my teachers once said to me “Your mistakes are your best friends”. At the time I did not understand the essence of what he meant; after all, the more mistakes I made the worse my report grades became. Now, however, I have recognised that specifically our (near) errors help us in our drive to achieve continuous improvement. On the other hand, this approach does call for a culture that offers the freedom to eventually set aside the negative consequences of an error, so as to create an opportunity for growth. Nijhof-Wassink has just that culture! By focusing honest attention on man and the environment, backed up with the necessary skills, we feed our drive to deliver the best quality and service.
